About Us

The CWA started in the early 1990's as the Canterbury Windsurfing Association. As that name suggests, it was originally formed by and for windsurfers. In 2005 the name was changed to the Canterbury Windsports Association in recognition of the growth of kiting, and wider interest in wind sports on water, land and snow. Recent developments in foiling and wing-ing should see the CWA sail well into the future.

Membership

As well as the value in associating with like minded enthusiasts at CWA events, our collective membership adds weight to our status as stakeholders in the locations we use when dealing with local authorities. The CWA has three levels of membership (junior, senior, and family), and is an incorporated association with a Constitution. CWA Membership fees also contribute towards affiliate membership with Windsurfing New Zealand, who represent the interests of clubs around NZ (e.g. by managing sail numbers for racing, and providing group public liability insurance policy for events).

Lessons & Learner Gear

During the summer season we run a youth windsurf program in conjunction with Naval Point Yacht Club at Lyttleton. We also have some learner windsurf gear available for use by members to help get you started. Contact Andrea on 027-435-9475.
