Requirements: Speed average over 500 meters. The highest 500 meter speed by the cut off date (one week before CWA prize giving) will win this cup.

 

Class: Open (male or female).

 

Area: Christchurch area, all beaches, lake Ellesmere, Akaroa, Lyttleton harbour, Ch Ch Estuary. Excludes the high country lakes.

 

A leader board will be formed on the CWA website.

The two big quakes which rocked Christchurch on December 23 have again altered the bed of the Avon-Heathcote Estuary.

Professor David Schiel, who heads Canterbury University's marine ecology research group, said about 30 per cent of the estuary was covered in fresh mounds of liquefaction as a result of the magnitude 5.8 and 6 quakes centred 5-6km off the coast. Read more below in the link...

After reading the May issue of the Tacks and Jibes you would be excused for thinking that Christchurch windsurfers are all "Lakeheads". However, this perception is wrong. There's another class of windsurfers out there who do not classify themselves as Lakeheads, rather, they call themselves women or men. The hardiest of these women and men are wavesailors, a group of which I consider myself a member.
